The final third of the season of the 18 rounds’ 2010 Formula 3 Euro Series gets underway with rounds number 13 and 14 at Brands Hatch this weekend. Edoardo Mortara (Signature) has been in the lead of the points’ standings since the beginning of the year.
The 23-year old Italian is coming to the circuit in Kent County boosted by four fastest qualifying times and four Saturday race wins in a row. At the 1.929 kilometres Brands Hatch Indy circuit, he also scored his maiden race win in the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2007.
In this year’s Formula 3 Euro Series guest appearance in the UK, Mortara will be facing rivals who have similarly good memories of the track south-east of London. Finn Mika Mäki (Motopark Academy), who only entered the series at a late stage this season, won a Formula 3 Euro Series round at Brands Hatch last year. Local hero Alexander Sims (ART Grand Prix), the only British driver in the field and living only two hours away from the track, is particularly eager to shine in his home round. For weeks, he has been competing with his team-mate Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix) for third place in the drivers’ standings behind Mortara and Marco Wittmann (Signature). The track suits both ART drivers: as rookies, they each scored a second place last year.
Alexander Sims (ART Grand Prix): “Being able to compete in a home race is always nice. But once I am in the car, a home race is just like any other race. Basically, I like to race at Brands Hatch. The track only has four corners, but it is all the more important to get through without any mistakes. I hope that I will be able to compete for pole position this weekend and I am very confident, too. Recently, we have improved, especially in qualifying.”
